Happy Friday! Welcome back to Casual Friday — a jumble of things that are not long enough for a full newsletter but also too complicated for a single photo in the Postcards series. I’ve got a fun hodge-podge this month.

So first, and by far the most exciting, our den closet got a make-over. For almost four years, it looked like the left. Before we moved in, I had an electrician add an overhead light and outlet because I always thought it could make a good closet office. We thought originally that Paul would be able to put a work computer in here for the weekend days that he can work from home, but four years later, we learned that his work requires a hard-line Internet cable. We don’t have any hardwire Internet in our house (a long, boring story) and so for now, Paul’s work-from-home workstation is not an option.
And so, I decided it could be a craft closet!

Step one, as always, is paint. I used Clary Sage inside the closet which is the same color as the beadboard and trim work in the den. The walls already had wood boards to rest shelving which was great. I painted the two existing shelves to match the walls.

I had a piece of wood cut down to size at the hardware store and then stained it to match the floors. This piece is deeper than the shelves and works great as a desk surface. I don’t do computer work or sewing here, but I do love that I now have a “project space tabletop” where I can leave things and shut the door.

If you know one thing about me, you know I love a documentation project. (It’s probably my scrapbooking origins.) This year, I had the idea to catalog all the varieties of flowers I am growing.
