I am excited introduce a new series to Scattering Seeds today — this one is called “A Look Inside.” Today we’re diving deep into my travel art journal and next month we’re going to dig through my hand-knit sweater drawer. This is my most literal “open book” column and I know it will be fun to write and read.

So, first up! My watercolor travel journal! I am obsessed with it. It’s a true hobby for me to work on this while we are traveling and unlike some other crafts I attempt, it’s one where the making is way more interesting to me than the having. (What I mean by that is, if I dropped my journal into the ocean at the start of trip I would be much sadder than if I dropped my journal into the ocean at the end.)

For the journal itself I am using a 3.5×5.5in Talen’s sketchbook. I love the size and the paper weight. I use Case for Making watercolors which I have collected over the past two years. I also bring three watercolor brush sizes, a pencil, a Pilot G-2 .38 pen, a brush marker, a thin marker, a date stamp, an ink pad, and a small ruler. All of these items fit perfectly into a yellow pencil case. (The exact one I have is by Angoo and hard to find now — here’s a link to a similar one on etsy and this brand looks like they are doing the same thing and sells via amazon.)
